The other morning I woke up to the most amazing winter wonderland! Ice Fog had come to our valley overnight and everything was covered with the most delicate teeny shining diamonds!
In order for the tiny ice crystals to form, humidity must be near 100% and the air temperature must drop below 32*F. The phenomenon is actually fairly rare.
Being raised in Southern California for most of my life, I was totally awed by my first sight of Ice Fog while living in Alaska years ago. I have only seen it a few times since then, and each time have felt blessed and amazed by it beauty.
